"It's Heartbreaking..."

"For the past six-plus years, Vacaville’s Soul Food Farm has provided chicken and eggs to the Bay Area. You may have eaten Soul Food Farm products at restaurants like Chez Panisse, Coi, Quince or Oliveto; or perhaps purchased them at places like Bi-Rite, Prather, Marina Meats and Avedano’s.

Last night, Soul Food Farm owners Alexis and Eric Koefoed sent out a letter to their CSA members, saying that they have decided to close the farm. They will stop raising and selling their pastured chicken and eggs by the end of September."

High costs of chicken feed play a role, especially with the drought ongoing for midwest corn farmers. Read more.
